FAQ

Most frequent questions and answers

This is case dependant, however on average with good care they can last 10-15 years.

Your natural tooth will need to be reshaped/prepared slightly to allow enough space for the veneer to sit. In some cases, there is very little to no preparation required however for this your teeth need to be very straight to begin with.

Sometimes if your teeth are very misaligned to start with and your current bite would not favour porcelain veneers, it would be advised to undergo orthodontic treatment such as invisalign to straighten your teeth prior to the final veneers.

Unlike composite veneers, porcelain veneers are stain resistant and do not change colour over time.

Porcelain veneers are extremely durable and hardwearing, however they can chip from accidental damage if not looked after.

What Are Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain veneers are one of many cosmetic options for patients who would like to improve the aesthetics of their smile. They are the most natural, long lasting cosmetic option available. They are handcrafted by the most skilled ceramic technicians in the UK and are bespoke to every patient.

Porcelain veneers are very thin shells of porcelain which are bonded onto the front aspect of the tooth to improve colour, shape and size of the teeth.

Indications for Porcelain veneers
  • Stained, darkened teeth
  • Crooked, misaligned teeth
  • Chipped/broken teeth
  • Spaced teeth
Initial Consultation

For every new patient I provide a free in-depth cosmetic consultation in which we discuss your concerns and what you would like to improve about your smile. Many options suitable to you are discussed including alternatives to porcelain veneers so you can make an informed decision.

Photographs, appropriate radiographs and digital scans will be taken so we can discuss your suitability for treatment. We will discuss your options for how many veneers and veneer design/shape/colour.

*A full dental health check is required before any cosmetic treatment in order to make sure there are no underlying conditions needing addressed such as decay or gum disease.

"Trial Smile" Appointment

This is created based on the criteria decided at the consultation appointment. This allows you to “test drive” your new smile before you commit to making any changes. This allows for any final design tweaks to be made and ensure that your expectations are met.

Treatment Day

On treatment day, a very small amount of the front surface of your teeth will be removed delicately in order to create enough room for the veneer/crown.

In some cases, when the teeth are very well aligned/straight to begin with we can do ‘no prep veneers’ in which no natural tooth is removed.

Together we will decide on the perfect shade/colour of your final veneers. This can range from natural shades to brighter and lighter shades depending on your desired look.

Digital scans are taken and sent to the dental laboratory where the veneers will be handcrafted. This can take up to 3 weeks during which time temporary veneers will be placed on your teeth.

Fit Appointment

The temporaries will be removed and the veneers will be tried in for you to have a look at in the mirror. They will then be bonded on to your teeth to complete your smile transformation.

Porcelain veneers are very durable and if looked after properly can last 10-15 years or longer.
