FAQ

Most frequent questions and answers

I am all about enhancing your beauty and tweaking what is already there and makes us who we are. I always provide free consultations to new patients where we discuss concerns, treatment options and achievability.

I am here to help you understand what it is that we can do to achieve your desired look, not simply inject a set volume of filler. Investing in your practitioner and finding one that you believe in is the hardest step of all and I am honoured to have the trust of my ongoing patients that allow me to work on their beautiful faces time and time again.

A topical anaesthetic cream will be applied to your lips for about 20 minutes before your treatment. You can also request to have dental injections to fully numb your lips before hand if you would like.

This is the most common questions I get asked.

It all depends on how much volume loss has occurred and what look you want to achieve. For example, someone starting out with thinner lips, it would be advisable to start out with a lesser amount to allow your lips time to expand. If you inject too much product at once the filler can expand into the spaces around the lips which is not natural. If someone already has a fuller pout but would like definition, then the lips will be able to take more product. This will all be explained at your consultation appointment based on your lip morphology and your end goal.

Results are instant. You will have some swelling and potentially bruising after your treatment which is normal and expected. This will settle down in the following 4-7 days. It should be noted that the most swelling occurs 24hours after having the treatment and will then decrease from then.

This should be taken into consideration if you are getting filler for a big event.

This depends on what filler choice you select and the treatment area. For places like the lips that are moving often when speaking and eating, the results will typically last between 6-9 months, sometimes longer depending on how quickly your body breaks down the product.

For areas like the cheeks and jaw, results can last up to 18 months as a thicker and more robust filler will be used to create definition.

People often ask why they should see a medical professional for their facial aesthetics over a cheaper high street option.

We have spent a long time studying anatomy of the head and neck and the underlying important structures such as nerves, blood vessels and muscles. This allows us to have a better understanding of how the face works as a whole instead of individual areas and therefore tailor treatment to you as a unique individual, rather than a one size fits all approach. I can provide you with the in depth knowledge that you require to explain why we are doing a procedure in the first place.

In addition, we are prescribers and therefore are the only practitioners that can prescribe emergency drugs and hyaluronidase (hyalase) which is used in emergency situations to dissolve dermal fillers if required.

While dermal fillers can be bought by almost anyone, and treatment carried out in unsafe environments, hyaluronidase has to be prescribed by a medical professional. I highly recommend that you should only ever have lip and dermal filler treatment if you know the clinic has hyaluronidase on hand in case of emergencies.

You should never compromise on quality. Your skin is an investment, not an expense.

A poor injecting technique, use of the wrong filler in the wrong place and various other inexperienced or unknowledgeable applications of dermal filler may lead to lumps, bumps, discolouration and migration of filler to unwanted places. This can also occur if you simply have not been appropriately advised by your practitioner and too high a volume of filler has been injected within too short a time frame. If this is the case I would advise that we dissolve the filler that has migrated and then start again.

Hyaluronidase is an enzyme that exists naturally in your body already. When you get lip fillers normally, low levels of naturally occurring hyaluronidase are the reason they break down over time. If you need your fillers dissolved and removed more quickly, we simply inject safe, more concentrated doses of hyaluronidase to break down the hyaluronic acid in the filler formula, which is then carried away by your body’s own natural systems.

What Are Fillers?

Dermal fillers are made up of hyaluronic acid (HA) which is a natural component of our skin.

The skin begins to age from the mid 20’s onwards. It is a slow and gradual process that see’s the three key components of the skin decline: collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid. When this happens, areas that used to be plump start to appear flattened.

Highest Quality products

I use the Teosyal® brand predominantly (Teoxane) which is a Swiss brand and has won numerous awards for both its results and research.

Teosyal’s award-winning line of dermal fillers is made of 100% non-animal origin (vegan) and biodegradable hyaluronic acid that is highly biocompatible, offering patients immediate and long-lasting results, with the reassurance that the product is safe.

Other brands of filler can be used on request.

Initial Consultation

For every new patient I provide a free in-depth consultation in which we discuss your areas of concern and how we can achieve your desired results.

It is important to take a full medical history in order to determine your suitability for treatment.

I treat all of my patients as individuals with unique anatomy and wants for their end result. Try not to focus on the volume of filler you want, but instead on what ‘tweakments’ we can do to achieve your desired look.

Treatment

Topical anaesthetic is applied for approximately 20 minutes before which makes the procedure as comfortable as it can be. Dental block injections can also be used on request for lip fillers.

The procedure only takes a few minutes with the minimum amount of injection sites as possible.

You may have some swelling, bruising if you are more prone and redness of the area for the remainder of the day. Downtime is minimal and you will be able to go back to work afterwards.

Maintenance

Your body will naturally break down the hyaluronic acid filler over the course of roughly 6-9 months or longer depending on the area treated.
