It takes time for the toxin to be taken up by your muscles, and therefore it can take from 3-14 days for the results to show, this varies from person to person however the peak effectiveness will be at 2 weeks. This should be taken into consideration if you are planning on getting treatment before a big event such as a wedding or holiday.

It would be beneficial if you could attend your appointment with minimal/no makeup to reduce the risk of infection from bacteria on the skin. We advise that you do not do any exercise for 24 hours, avoid sunbeds for 7 days, avoid touching the area and remain upright for the next 4 hours.

Anti wrinkle injections can work to soften the appearance of present wrinkles. In addition, it can also work to prevent/ delay the development of wrinkles from forming and therefore many individuals are opting to have BTX as a preventative approach.

If you are starting to see wrinkling of the skin at rest this would be a good time to come in for a consultation to discuss your treatment options

If you have pain in the muscles that you use to chew,  a multidisciplinary approach is required to assess a few things. The pain may be a result of clenching/grinding your teeth. It is important to find out the cause of this which can include increased stress levels, grinding when sleeping, the bite/position of your teeth and muscle enlargement. Botox injections can be used alongside other dental treatments to alleviate symptoms and slim the lower face muscles.

The muscles that raise the upper lip on smiling may be over active, which can be treated with small doses of botox to slightly relax these muscles and lower the lip line. It may also present that a combination of lip filler and botox can be used to create the desired results.

What Is Botulinum Toxin?

Botulinum toxin is the most popular non surgical facial procedure administered throughout the world.

BTX is a naturally occurring toxin and is used to soften expression lines and wrinkles which occur due to ageing, loss of elasticity of the skin and UV damage.

The typical problem areas we see and treat are the frown lines, forehead and around the eyes (crows feet).

Prevention

Some individuals can have very exaggerated muscles of the face when creating expressions (dynamic movement), which overtime can lead to permanent wrinkles when the muscles are relaxed (static lines).

To prevent this from occurring and soften lines already present, dynamic lines can be treated with anti wrinkle injections at regular intervals (usually every 3-4 months).
